belowLadies, have you ever took a look down there and wasn’t thrilled by its appearance or perhaps you’ve had a couple of kids and your sex life is not what it used to be?  Maybe you’re just curious about your lady parts and want them in tip-top working order?!  No matter what your situation, you’re not alone in your quest for the perfect va-j-j and the good news is, it’s easier to obtain then you think.

If you haven’t heard about it, listen up!  Qualified surgeons are performing vaginal rejuvenation procedures or “designer vagina” techniques to women who feel their “fine china” is in need of a tune up.  Don’t get it twisted, these procedures, sometimes referred to as “mommy make-overs” are NOT just for moms.  The situations and procedures vary but the outcome is the same – better appearance and better sex (people claim).   According to The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, fewer than 800 vaginal rejuvenations were performed in 2005. By 2009, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery tallied more than 2,500 procedures (and growing).

According to my research, “Thirty million American women suffer from symptoms of vaginal relaxation and stress urinary incontinence. These symptoms may be related to a common set of problems that may occur as a result of childbirth, aging or a combination of both.”

I might be a Love & Relationships expert but I’m no doctor.   For me to fully understand the nip and tuck below phenomenon, I spoke with Dr. Christopher Warner of Warner OB/GYN and Cosmetic Surgery.  This brother (sorry ladies, he is happily married) is highly respected and sought after in his field.  His passion and his practice’s mission are to empower women with knowledge, choice, and alternatives.

How did you get into the designer vagina business?

Warner_head_shot

I am an OB/GYN by training.  I have a private practice and still deliver babies but back in 2004, I really got introduced to this area by a patient.  My practice is located in Washington, DC and my patient was in New York.  She would come to DC for her appointments and one day she inquired about vaginal rejuvenation.  Surprisingly, I kept hearing this from a lot of my patients.  Many of whom were mothers and said sex was not the same after several childbirths.  So, in essence, I got into this from requests from my patients.  I studied under the pioneer Dr. David Matlock  in Beverly Hills.

Let’s talk sex!  Does having the surgery really improve sex? Inquiring minds want to know!

Men have Viagra but what do women have?  Kegels builds up the muscles but does not repair muscles that may have been separated after women experience childbirth. Women have to have realistic expectations but my patients are very satisfied with the outcome.  Men don’t understand that women DO fake (orgasm) and women deserve to have great sex just like the male partner does.”

PREACH Dr. Warner!  I know a lot of women that fake!

Women can even fake arousal.  Unfortunately, (some) women think that’s its part of the relationship to just have intercourse with no enjoyment.  It doesn’t have to be that way.

But, the choice to have surgery is not always about sex.  My first patient that had a vaginal procedure done was 22 years-old and her labia grew so large that she would not wear a bathing suit without shorts on top.  The look on her face one week after the procedure was enough for me.

What do you say to skeptics that think this is some new-fangled mess?

Warner_head_shot

A lot of people just don’t understand.  I sat on the task force for the American College of OB/GYN because they wanted to know what was going on and after procedures were explained, they understood.  These practices are an adaptation of a procedure that was done over 80 years ago but have been refined over time.  The bad part of this industry is ignorance.  Knowledge is key!

I’m very passionate about my work and women’s health.  I was the first in DC to do these procedures. I wouldn’t do anything on a patient that I would not do to my wife or mother.

How do you diagnose if any rejuvenation is needed?

Warner_head_shot

I don’t make a personal judgment. When a woman does inquire I always ask who really wants this, is this for you or your partner?

Can you break down the two types or most popular procedures?

Warner_head_shot

There’s Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation (LVR) and that procedure enhances vaginal muscle tone, strength, and control. It decreases internal and external vaginal diameters, and builds up and strengthens the perineal body, all of which greatly promotes female, sexual gratification.

Then there’s Designer Laser Vaginoplasty (DLV)This involves the aesthetic laser surgical enhancement of the vulvar structures.

Let’s talk recovery time and costs.

Warner_head_shot

The cost depends on what procedure is performed but services range from $3K to $8K.  I have patients that are back home in four to seven days but you cannot have sexual intercourse for six weeks.  I also recommend no strenuous activities (pressure from exercising, etc.) for four to six weeks.  This is not about being vain!  This is something that is a personal decision.

Dr. Warner is ON POINT!  I’m not mad at the designer vagina industry and the attention to the female sex organ.  In my opinion, IT’S ABOUT TIME!  We have been watching Viagra commercials for years!!!!  *SIDE BAR:  Ladies, if you are not happy with your most coveted sexual organ then perhaps you should look into a little nip and tuck down below.  Like the doctor said, “women deserve to have great sex just like the male partner does.”
