Founded by Thomas Jefferson, the University of Virginia opened its doors with the purpose of preparing leaders to help form the future of the United States. The Office of African-American Affairs works to make sure that these students feel welcomed and supported academically and socially on campus. Black Girls Run (BGR) promotes healthy living among African-American women. BGR’s goal is to minimize the number of black women with chronic illnesses due to unhealthy eating and lack of exercise.
